Alan Mearns

Guitarist & Composer

Alan Mearns was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive voices in today’s guitar world. His artistry combines technical virtuosity with deep musical expression and a highly individual interpretative style.


He continued his musical studies in the United States, becoming the first guitarist to receive the prestigious Fletcher Scholarship at Appalachian State University, where he studied with Dr. Douglas James. He later completed his Master’s degree at Austin Peay State University under renowned guitarist and scholar Stanley Yates, whose influence helped shape his musical approach.


Alan Mearns gained international attention especially through his acclaimed interpretations and arrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music. His recording Sei Solo – Works by J.S. Bach received widespread praise and reached No. 8 on the Billboard Classical Music Charts. Critics and fellow musicians have celebrated his artistic vision and innovative approach to the classical guitar repertoire.
