Thomas Karstens

Assessor

After receiving his first guitar lessons in Lübeck and Hamburg, Thomas Karstens studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and the Schola Cantorum in Paris. He also attended masterclasses with Manuel Barrueco, Eliot Fisk, Odair Assad, Godelieve Monden, and, as a DAAD scholarship recipient, at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Oscar Ghiglia.


As a soloist and member of chamber music ensembles, Karstens has performed at various events, including the Festival Internacional de Guitarra at the Auditorio Nacional in Quito, the Kölner Philharmonie, the Ibero-Americana '92 Festival in Cologne, the Schlossfestspiele Zwingenberg, the Stiftung Kloster Michaelstein, the Schlosskonzerte Nienover, the Aula Magna of the University of Cádiz, the Auditorio Nacional in Managua, as well as at conservatories in Tarragona and Izmir, and the Kölner Nachtmusik concert series.


His work as a performer and lecturer has been supported by the Goethe-Institut, the Humboldt Society, and Jeunesse Musicale Europa. Karstens has premiered solo works dedicated to him by Spanish and German composers.
